“With Columbo Coffee Liqueur, we see an opportunity to create a delicious spirit that caters to the growing affinity for coffee flavored items while also staying true to the Columbo brand’s origins in New Orleans"

NEW ORLEANS, La (Nov. 5, 2019) – New Orleans has always served as a vibrant coffee scene, and now the Sazerac Company is releasing a premium Coffee Liqueur inspired by the rich coffee culture of the city. Columbo Coffee Liqueur takes its name from Columbo Bitters, which were sold by L.E. Jung, early proprietors of Peychaud’s Bitters in the late 1890’s. Columbo Coffee Liqueur will be available at the Sazerac House through Spring 2020 before becoming available in other markets.

“With Columbo Coffee Liqueur, we see an opportunity to create a delicious spirit that caters to the growing affinity for coffee flavored items while also staying true to the Columbo brand’s origins in New Orleans, long known as a hub for coffee culture,” said Jana Ritter, marketing manager, Sazerac.

The coffee industry in New Orleans began in the 19th century when New Orleans served as the port of choice for Latin American manufacturers and roasters. With the vibrant coffee trade, gathering places for drinking coffee also became prevalent throughout the city and daily coffee breaks became a true New Orleans tradition.

Columbo Coffee Liqueur is best enjoyed over ice or in a Coffee Old Fashioned. It also pairs well with another New Orleans favorite – Pralines & Cream liqueur.  Suggested retail price for Columbo Coffee Liqueur is $22.99 for a 750 mL, and it will be sold at the Sazerac House in New Orleans before launching in other markets in Spring 2020.
